FASHION ANTHROPOLOGIE

THE PROJECT

This project was about exploring the relationship between identity and fashion. This project was a combination of individual work and collaborative work.

Individually, I explored a fashion obsession that related to Fashion Identity. For me, this was Clarks and the deeper-rooted history of Clarks Originals. I researched Clarks shoes, particularly the cultural significance that the brand holds, from being quintessentially British and being a staple for school shoes to its other identity of having a long-standing connection with Jamaica, particularly rude boy fashion and Jamaica’s music scene. The project answered two key questions:

In what ways do Clarks shoes help form and shape the identity of the people who wear them?

What are the wider perceptions of Clarks shoes among the population?

This project focused more on the research side rather than the outcome but through this project, I did take a series of photographs that resonated with my research findings and showed the deep-rooted history that Clarks has.
